Retail Insight Transformed

SkinKandy
Multinational Body Piercing Retailer,
Australia & New Zealand

Challenge

SkinKandy is a rapidly growing multinational body piercing company, operating both online and through an expanding network of retail locations. The business had adopted best-in-class tools for each function, NetSuite, Lightspeed, Deputy, Shopify, Salesforce, Cin7, and Kepler, but none were integrated. More than ten core systems with no master data management.

The result was manual cross-system tasks, inconsistent workflows, and disconnected customer and staff experiences. Reporting was built on competing Excel files with no single version of the truth and no trust in the numbers. Valuable insights were buried across systems, and the manual effort required to compile even basic reports was consuming time that should have been spent running the business.

For a company opening new stores and scaling across multiple countries, this fragmentation was a ceiling on growth.

Solution

InsyteGroup was engaged to design and deliver a comprehensive data integration and business intelligence framework. We began with a proof of concept – integrating Lightspeed to quickly demonstrate the value of accessible, structured data. This early success built confidence with the client and set the stage for broader transformation.

From there, we unified all core systems, including Shopify, Salesforce, Cin7, Deputy, and NetSuite, into a single data lake built on Databricks with Medallion Architecture. Ingestion technologies included APIs, native pipelines, and JDBC connectors. We established NetSuite as the central system of record, with app-to-app integration enforcing master data alignment across the organisation.

We mapped cross-functional workflows across retail, IT, and operations, identifying opportunities for automation. This included building an automated booking engine using real-time Deputy data and introducing a scalable onboarding framework for new stores, so the data infrastructure scaled automatically as the business expanded.

We delivered end-to-end Power BI reporting covering every function: live store dashboards, executive performance overviews, weekly trends, service utilisation, new store benchmarking, forecasting, supply chain visibility, and employee retention. Automated board packs replaced the manual weekly compilation process entirely.

Our iterative approach meant the data environment was built piece by piece, adapting to business priorities as the project evolved. By embedding with the client, we ensured that every dashboard and integration aligned with real-world needs, not just technical requirements.
